Trousdale County is a county located in the state of Tennessee, United States. It is one of the smallest counties in the state by area and population. The county seat and only incorporated city is Hartsville.

History[edit]

Trousdale County was established in 1870 from parts of Macon, Smith, and Sumner counties. It was named in honor of William Trousdale, a former governor of Tennessee and a veteran of the Mexican-American War.

Geography[edit]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 117 square miles (300 km²), of which 114 square miles (295 km²) is land and 3.0 square miles (7.8 km²) (2.6%) is water. The county is located in the north-central part of Tennessee and is part of the Nashville metropolitan area.
