It's usually caused by not enough vitamin D in the diet, not enough sunlight, or a problem with the way the body uses vitamin D. |

Osteonecrosis - (pronounced) (OS-tee-oh-neh-KROH-sis) condition in which there is a loss of blood flow to bone tissue, resulting in bone death. It's most common in the hips, knees, shoulders, and ankles. It can be caused by long-term use of steroid drugs, alcohol abuse, joint injuries, and certain diseases such as cancer and arthritis. It can also occur at some point after cancer treatment that included methotrexate, bisphosphonates, or corticosteroids. Also called aseptic necrosis, avascular necrosis and ischemic necrosis
