Dashboard (macOS)

Dashboard was an application for macOS developed by Apple Inc. It was first introduced in Mac OS X Tiger and was discontinued in macOS Mojave. Dashboard allowed users to add and manage small applications called widgets.

History[edit]

Dashboard was introduced with the release of Mac OS X Tiger (version 10.4) on April 29, 2005. It provided a layer of mini-applications that could be accessed quickly by pressing a dedicated key or using a hot corner. These widgets could perform various tasks such as displaying the weather, stock prices, a calculator, and more.

With the release of macOS Mojave (version 10.14) in 2018, Dashboard was disabled by default, and it was completely removed in macOS Catalina (version 10.15) in 2019.

Users could also download additional widgets from the Apple website or create their own using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

Customization[edit]

Dashboard allowed users to customize their experience by adding, removing, and rearranging widgets. Widgets could be downloaded from the Apple website or created by users. Custom widgets could be developed using standard web technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

Discontinuation[edit]

With the release of macOS Mojave, Dashboard was disabled by default, signaling the beginning of its phase-out. In macOS Catalina, Dashboard was completely removed, marking the end of its life cycle.
