Mickey Drexler
Mickey Drexler, born as Millard S. Drexler on August 17, 1944, is an American businessman and retail executive. He is best known for his role as the CEO and Chairman of J.Crew, a position he held from 2003 to 2017. Prior to J.Crew, Drexler served as the CEO of Gap Inc. from 1995 to 2002, where he was instrumental in the company's growth and success during that period.
Early Life and Education
Drexler was born and raised in The Bronx, New York City. He attended Bronx High School of Science and later graduated from the University at Buffalo. He earned his Master's degree in Business Administration from Boston University Graduate School of Management.
Career
Drexler began his career in retail at Abraham & Straus, working in the merchandising department. He then moved to Bloomingdale's, where he served as a buyer and later as a vice president.
In 1983, Drexler joined Gap Inc. as the president of merchandising. Under his leadership, Gap Inc. expanded its portfolio to include Banana Republic and Old Navy, and the company's revenue grew from $400 million to $14 billion.
In 2003, Drexler was appointed as the CEO of J.Crew. He transformed the company from a catalog-based retailer to a high-end fashion brand. During his tenure, J.Crew's revenue increased from $690 million to $2.4 billion.
Legacy
Drexler is widely recognized for his innovative approach to retail and his ability to identify and capitalize on fashion trends. He is often referred to as the "Merchant Prince" for his contributions to the retail industry.
