ITunes
iTunes is a media player, media library, Internet radio broadcaster, and mobile device management utility developed by Apple Inc.. It is used to purchase, play, download, and organize digital multimedia, on personal computers running the macOS and Windows operating systems, and can be used to rip songs from CDs, as well as play content with the use of dynamic, smart playlists. Options for sound optimizations also exist, as well as ways to wirelessly share the iTunes library.
History[edit]
iTunes was announced by then-Apple CEO Steve Jobs on January 9, 2001. The original and main focus of iTunes is music, with a library offering organization, collection, and storage of users' music collections. It can be used to rip songs from CDs, as well as play content with the use of dynamic, smart playlists. Options for sound optimizations also exist.
Features[edit]
iTunes includes a variety of features:
- Media Management: iTunes is known for its media management capabilities, with users able to organize their media into playlists, edit file information, record compact discs, copy files to a digital audio player, purchase music and videos through its built-in music store, download free podcasts, back up songs onto a CD or DVD, run a visualizer to display graphical effects in time to the music, and encode music into several audio formats.
- iTunes Store: The iTunes Store is a software-based online digital media store operated by Apple Inc. that opened on April 28, 2003. It allows users to purchase and download songs, with 200,000 tracks available at launch. In the first week, one million songs were sold.
- iTunes Radio: iTunes Radio is a built-in music streaming service in iTunes. The service also allows customers to purchase the songs they hear, and provides them with personalized recommendations of songs they might like.
- Device synchronization: iTunes can be used to sync with devices such as the iPhone, iPad, and iPod. Users can organize their music, movies, TV shows, and more, then sync them to their device or play them on their Mac or PC.
