Methenmadinone acetate
Methenmadinone acetate is a steroidal antiandrogen that was never marketed. It is a synthetic and orally active anabolic–androgenic steroid (AAS) and a 17α-alkylated derivative of nandrolone (19-nortestosterone). Methenmadinone acetate is related to other 17α-alkylated AAS such as ethylestrenol and noretynodrel.
Pharmacology
As a steroidal antiandrogen, methenmadinone acetate is a competitive antagonist of the androgen receptor (AR), the biological target of androgens like testosterone and dihydrotestosterone (DHT). It competes with these androgens for binding to the AR and thereby prevents them from exerting their biological effects in the body.
Chemistry
Methenmadinone acetate, also known as 17α-methyl-19-nor-δ1-testosterone 17β-acetate, is a synthetic estrane steroid and a derivative of testosterone. It is more specifically a derivative of nandrolone (19-nortestosterone) and is a member of the estrane (C18 steroid) group of AAS. Methenmadinone acetate is the 17α-methylated variant of nandrolone and the acetate ester of methenmadinone.
History
Methenmadinone acetate was first described in the literature in 1965. It was never marketed for medical use.
