Estradiol anthranilate

From WikiMD's medical encyclopedia

Estradiol anthranilate, also known as estradiol 3-anthranilate, is a synthetic, steroidal estrogen that is a derivative of estradiol, the primary female sex hormone. It is an estrogen ester, specifically, the 3-anthranilic acid ester of estradiol. Estradiol anthranilate was never marketed.

Chemistry

Estradiol anthranilate, also known as estra-1,3,5(10)-triene-3,17β-diol 3-anthranilate, is a synthetic estrane steroid and a derivative of estradiol. It is more specifically a derivative of estradiol in which the C3 hydroxyl group has been modified into an anthranilic acid ester.

Pharmacology

As an estrogen, estradiol anthranilate has similar effects in the body to those of natural estrogens. It can stimulate the development of female secondary sexual characteristics, regulate the menstrual cycle, and influence mood and cognitive function. However, as a synthetic derivative of estradiol, it may have different pharmacokinetics and potency.

History

Estradiol anthranilate was synthesized in the 1950s as part of a series of estradiol esters. Despite its synthesis, it was never marketed for medical use.
