Party Central
Party Central is a short film produced by Pixar Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures. It is a spin-off of the 2013 film Monsters University and features characters from the Monsters, Inc. franchise. The short film was directed by Kelsey Mann and premiered in theaters on March 21, 2014, alongside the theatrical release of Muppets Most Wanted.
Plot
The story of Party Central takes place during a weekend at Monsters University. Mike Wazowski and James P. "Sulley" Sullivan return to their Oozma Kappa fraternity house to help their friends throw a party. However, the party is initially a flop due to a lack of attendees. To save the event, Mike and Sulley devise a plan to "borrow" partygoers from a rival fraternity's party by using a series of doors that act as portals. Their plan succeeds, and the Oozma Kappa party becomes a huge success.
Characters
- Mike Wazowski - A green, one-eyed monster who is a student at Monsters University.
- James P. "Sulley" Sullivan - A large, blue-furred monster and Mike's best friend.
- Art - A member of the Oozma Kappa fraternity.
- Squishy - Another member of Oozma Kappa.
- Terry and Terri - Twin brothers who are also part of Oozma Kappa.
- Don Carlton - The mature student and member of Oozma Kappa.
Production
Party Central was directed by Kelsey Mann, who also worked as a story supervisor on Monsters University. The short film was produced by Kori Rae, with Randy Newman providing the musical score. The animation style and character designs are consistent with those seen in Monsters University.
Release
Party Central premiered in theaters on March 21, 2014, accompanying the release of Muppets Most Wanted. It was later included as a bonus feature on the Monsters University Blu-ray and DVD releases.
Reception
The short film received positive reviews from critics and audiences, who praised its humor and the return of beloved characters from the Monsters, Inc. franchise.
