Monsters at Work
Monsters at Work is an American animated television series, a spin-off of the Pixar film Monsters, Inc. (2001). The series is produced by Disney Television Animation and developed by Bobs Gannaway. It premiered on Disney+ on July 7, 2021. The show is set in the monster world, focusing on new characters as well as returning favorites from the original film. The series explores the transition of the Monsters, Incorporated power plant from harvesting children's screams to laughter as its primary energy source, following the events of Monsters, Inc.
Plot
The series follows Tylor Tuskmon, a recent Scare Major graduate from Monsters University, who dreams of working alongside his idols, Mike Wazowski and James P. "Sulley" Sullivan. However, upon arriving at Monsters, Incorporated, Tylor discovers that the company has undergone a significant change - they now harvest laughter instead of screams, as laughter is found to be a more potent energy source. Tylor is then assigned to the Facilities Team (MIFT), where he must work from the ground up to achieve his dream of becoming a Jokester.
Characters
- Tylor Tuskmon - An eager and talented mechanic who aspires to be a Jokester.
- Val Little - Tylor's best friend and an enthusiastic member of MIFT.
- Mike Wazowski and James P. "Sulley" Sullivan - The iconic duo from Monsters, Inc., now running the company as CEO and Vice President, respectively.
- Fritz - The affable head of the MIFT team.
- Other characters include Cutter, Duncan, and Smitty, who all provide a rich tapestry of personalities and challenges for Tylor as he navigates his new role.
Production
The series was announced in April 2019 as part of the original content lineup for Disney+. It marks the first time that characters from the Monsters, Inc. universe have been featured in a television series, expanding the beloved franchise. The show utilizes traditional animation techniques, blending them with modern technology to bring the monster world to life in a new format. The original voice actors, Billy Crystal (Mike) and John Goodman (Sulley), reprised their roles, adding authenticity and continuity to the series.
