Disney Interactive
Disney Interactive was a division of The Walt Disney Company responsible for developing and publishing video games and interactive entertainment. It was established in 1995 and was known for creating games based on Disney's popular franchises.
History[edit]
Disney Interactive was formed in 1995 as a result of the merger between Disney Interactive Studios and Disney Consumer Products. The division focused on creating interactive content, including video games and online experiences, that leveraged Disney's vast array of intellectual properties.
In 2013, Disney Interactive merged with Disney Consumer Products to form Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media. This merger was part of a strategic move to consolidate Disney's digital and consumer products businesses.
Notable Products[edit]
Disney Interactive was known for several successful video game franchises, including:
- Kingdom Hearts - A collaboration with Square Enix, combining characters from Disney and Final Fantasy.
- Epic Mickey - A series of action-adventure platform games featuring Mickey Mouse.
- Disney Infinity - A toys-to-life game series that allowed players to use physical figurines to unlock characters and content in the game.
Closure[edit]
In 2016, Disney Interactive was officially closed as part of a restructuring effort by The Walt Disney Company. The decision was made to focus on licensing Disney's properties to third-party developers rather than developing games in-house.
Legacy[edit]
Despite its closure, Disney Interactive left a lasting impact on the video game industry, particularly through its innovative use of Disney's intellectual properties in interactive media. The division's games continue to be enjoyed by fans around the world.
