Disney Infinity
Disney Infinity is an action-adventure game developed by Avalanche Software and published by Disney Interactive Studios. The game was released for multiple platforms including PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, Microsoft Windows, iOS, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
Gameplay[edit]
Disney Infinity features a blend of action-adventure and sandbox game elements. Players use real-world collectible figurines that are placed on the "Infinity Base" to bring characters into the game. The game is divided into two main modes: "Play Set" and "Toy Box."
Play Set Mode[edit]
In Play Set mode, players can explore various themed worlds based on popular Disney and Pixar franchises. Each Play Set has its own unique storyline and objectives. Some of the notable Play Sets include those based on Pirates of the Caribbean, The Incredibles, and Monsters University.
Toy Box Mode[edit]
Toy Box mode allows players to create their own custom worlds and games using a wide array of tools and assets. This mode encourages creativity and offers a high degree of freedom, enabling players to mix and match elements from different franchises.
Development[edit]
Disney Infinity was developed by Avalanche Software, a studio known for its work on other Disney titles. The game was part of Disney's strategy to enter the "toys-to-life" market, competing with other franchises like Skylanders.
Reception[edit]
The game received generally positive reviews for its innovative use of collectible figurines and the expansive Toy Box mode. Critics praised the game's creativity and the ability to blend different Disney and Pixar universes.
Sequels and Spin-offs[edit]
Disney Infinity was followed by two sequels: Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes (2.0 Edition) and Disney Infinity 3.0, which introduced characters from the Marvel Comics and Star Wars franchises, respectively.
Discontinuation[edit]
In May 2016, Disney announced that it would discontinue the Disney Infinity series and cease production of the figurines. The decision was part of a broader move to exit the self-publishing console games business.
