Purl (film)
Purl is a 2019 American computer-animated short film produced by Pixar Animation Studios. It was directed by Kristen Lester and produced by Gillian Libbert-Duncan. The film is part of Pixar's SparkShorts program, which aims to discover new storytellers, explore new storytelling techniques, and experiment with new production workflows.
Plot
The story follows Purl, an enthusiastic ball of yarn, who starts her first day at a fast-paced, male-dominated company called B.R.O. Capital. Eager to fit in, Purl changes her appearance and behavior to match her colleagues, but soon realizes that she has lost her true self in the process. The film addresses themes of workplace diversity, inclusion, and the challenges faced by women in male-dominated industries.
Production
"Purl" was the first film released under the SparkShorts program. Director Kristen Lester drew from her own experiences working in the animation industry, where she often felt the need to conform to a predominantly male environment. The film was produced using a combination of traditional animation techniques and modern computer-generated imagery (CGI).
Release
