IOS 4

iOS 4 is the fourth major release of the iOS mobile operating system developed by Apple Inc. It was announced on June 7, 2010, at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) and was released to the public on June 21, 2010. iOS 4 was the first version of the operating system to drop support for the original iPhone and the first-generation iPod Touch.
Features[edit]
iOS 4 introduced several new features and improvements over its predecessor, iOS 3. Some of the key features include:
Multitasking[edit]
iOS 4 brought true multitasking capabilities to the iPhone and iPod Touch, allowing users to switch between apps without closing them. This feature was available on the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, and the third-generation iPod Touch.
Folders[edit]
The introduction of folders allowed users to organize their apps into groups, making it easier to manage and access them. Each folder could hold up to 12 apps on the iPhone and iPod Touch, and up to 20 apps on the iPad.
Unified Mailbox[edit]
The Mail app received a unified inbox, allowing users to view emails from multiple accounts in a single inbox. This feature also included threaded conversations, making it easier to follow email threads.
iBooks[edit]
The iBooks app, which was initially available only on the iPad, was made available for the iPhone and iPod Touch with iOS 4. This app allowed users to purchase and read books in the ePub format.
Game Center[edit]
Game Center was introduced as a social gaming network, allowing users to invite friends, start multiplayer games, and track achievements and leaderboards.
Home Screen Wallpaper[edit]
iOS 4 allowed users to set custom wallpapers for their home screen, a feature that was previously limited to the lock screen.
Other Features[edit]
- Bluetooth keyboard support
- Enhanced data protection
- 5x digital zoom for the camera
- Spell check
- Personal hotspot (introduced in iOS 4.3)
Device Compatibility[edit]
iOS 4 was compatible with the following devices:
- iPhone 3G (limited features)
- iPhone 3GS
- iPhone 4
- iPod Touch (2nd generation) (limited features)
- iPod Touch (3rd generation)
- iPod Touch (4th generation)
