Bleckley County is a county located in the central part of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 12,583. The county seat is Cochran.
History[edit]
Bleckley County was created on July 30, 1912, from parts of Pulaski and Laurens counties. It was named after Logan Edwin Bleckley, a former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Georgia.
Geography[edit]
According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 219 square miles (570 km²), of which 216 square miles (560 km²) is land and 3.0 square miles (7.8 km²) (1.4%) is water.

Demographics[edit]
As of the 2020 United States census, there were 12,583 people, 4,500 households, and 3,200 families residing in the county. The racial makeup of the county was 70% White, 25% African American, and 5% from other races.
Education[edit]
Bleckley County is served by the Bleckley County School District, which includes Bleckley County High School, Bleckley County Middle School, and several elementary schools. The county is also home to Middle Georgia State University, which has a campus in Cochran.
Economy[edit]
The economy of Bleckley County is primarily based on agriculture, with peanuts, cotton, and timber being the main products. The county also has a growing manufacturing sector.
Transportation[edit]
Major highways in Bleckley County include U.S. Route 23 and Georgia State Route 26. The county is also served by the Cochran Municipal Airport.
