Coweta County is a county located in the west central part of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 146,158. The county seat is Newnan.

History

Coweta County was created by an act of the Georgia General Assembly on June 9, 1826. It was named after the Coweta tribe of the Creek Nation, who were the original inhabitants of the area. The county has a rich history, with its development closely tied to the expansion of the railroad and agriculture in the 19th century.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 446 square miles (1,160 km²), of which 441 square miles (1,140 km²) is land and 5.0 square miles (13 km²) (1.1%) is water.
