Camden County is a county located in the southeastern corner of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 54,768. The county seat is Woodbine, and the largest city is St. Marys.
History
Camden County was created by the Georgia General Assembly on February 5, 1777, and is one of the original counties of Georgia. It was named after Charles Pratt, 1st Earl Camden, a British supporter of the American colonies' cause.
During the American Revolutionary War, the county was a site of conflict between British loyalists and American patriots. In the 19th century, Camden County's economy was largely based on agriculture, particularly rice and cotton plantations.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 782 square miles (2,030 km²), of which 613 square miles (1,590 km²) is land and 169 square miles (440 km²) (21.6%) is water. The county is part of the Coastal Georgia region and features a mix of coastal marshlands and forested areas.

Camden County is served by the Camden County School District, which includes several elementary, middle, and high schools. The county is also home to the College of Coastal Georgia, which offers higher education opportunities to residents.

Major highways in Camden County include Interstate 95, which runs north-south through the county, providing access to major cities such as Jacksonville, Florida and Savannah, Georgia.
