Glynn County is a county located in the southeastern part of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 84,499. The county seat is Brunswick. Glynn County is part of the Brunswick, Georgia Metropolitan Statistical Area.
History[edit]
Glynn County was established in 1777 and is one of the original eight counties of Georgia. It was named after John Glynn, a member of the British Parliament who was a supporter of the American colonies. The county has a rich history, including its role in the American Revolutionary War and its development as a major port city in the 19th century.
Geography[edit]
According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 585 square miles (1,520 km²), of which 420 square miles (1,100 km²) is land and 165 square miles (430 km²) (28.2%) is water. Glynn County is located on the Atlantic Ocean and includes several barrier islands, such as St. Simons Island, Sea Island, and Jekyll Island.

Demographics[edit]
As of the 2020 United States census, there were 84,499 people, 33,438 households, and 21,987 families residing in the county. The population density was 201 people per square mile (78/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 67.2% White, 26.1% Black or African American, 0.3% Native American, 1.4% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 2.3% from other races, and 2.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.4% of the population.
Economy[edit]
Glynn County's economy is diverse, with significant contributions from the tourism, shipping, and manufacturing sectors. The Port of Brunswick is one of the busiest ports on the East Coast, handling a large volume of automobile imports and exports. Tourism is also a major industry, with visitors attracted to the county's beaches, golf courses, and historic sites.
Education[edit]
Glynn County is served by the Glynn County School District, which includes several elementary, middle, and high schools. The county is also home to the College of Coastal Georgia, a public college offering a range of undergraduate programs.
Transportation[edit]
Major highways in Glynn County include Interstate 95, U.S. Route 17, and U.S. Route 341. The county is also served by the Brunswick Golden Isles Airport, which offers flights to several major cities.
