McDuffie County, Georgia is a county located in the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2020 United States Census, the population was 21,312. The county seat is Thomson. McDuffie County is part of the Augusta-Richmond County, GA-SC Metropolitan Statistical Area.
History[edit]
McDuffie County was created on October 18, 1870, from parts of Columbia and Warren counties. It was named after the South Carolina governor and senator George McDuffie.
Geography[edit]
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 266 square miles, of which 257 square miles is land and 9.4 square miles (3.5%) is water. The county is located in the Piedmont region of the state, known for its rolling hills.
