Fannin County, Georgia

Fannin County is a county located in the north-central part of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2020 census, the population was approximately 25,000. The county seat is Blue Ridge.

History

Fannin County was created on January 21, 1854, from parts of Gilmer and Union counties. It was named after James Fannin, a hero of the Texas Revolution.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 392 square miles (1,020 km²), of which 387 square miles (1,000 km²) is land and 5.2 square miles (13 km²) (1.3%) is water.

As of the 2020 United States census, there were 25,319 people, 10,000 households, and 7,000 families residing in the county. The population density was 65 people per square mile (25/km²).

Economy

The economy of Fannin County is primarily based on tourism, agriculture, and small manufacturing. The county is known for its scenic beauty, including the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Toccoa River.
