Spink County is a county located in the state of South Dakota, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population was 6,191. The county seat is Redfield, which is also the largest city in the county.
History[edit]
Spink County was created in 1873 and organized in 1879. It was named for S. L. Spink, a Dakota Territory legislator. The county has a rich history tied to the development of the Great Plains and the expansion of the railroad.
Geography[edit]
According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,510 square miles (3,910 km²), of which 1,504 square miles (3,890 km²) is land and 6.0 square miles (16 km²) (0.4%) is water.
