Ziebach County, South Dakota

Ziebach County is a county located in the U.S. state of South Dakota. As of the 2020 census, the population was 2,413, making it one of the least populous counties in South Dakota. The county seat is Dupree. The county was created in 1911 and named for Frank M. Ziebach, a pioneer newspaper editor and legislator.
Geography[edit]
According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,971 square miles (5,105 km²), of which 1,961 square miles (5,079 km²) is land and 10 square miles (26 km²) (0.5%) is water. The county is part of the Cheyenne River Indian Reservation.

As of the 2020 census, there were 2,413 people, 799 households, and 588 families residing in the county. The population density was 1.2 inhabitants per square mile (0.46/km²). The racial makeup of the county was predominantly Native American, with a significant minority of White residents.
