Scott Atlas

American radiologist and political advisor
Scott William Atlas (born July 5, 1955) is an American radiologist and political advisor. He is a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution, a conservative think tank at Stanford University. Atlas is known for his controversial role as a special advisor on the White House Coronavirus Task Force under President Donald Trump during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Early life and education[edit]
Atlas was born in Chicago, Illinois. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign and a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from the University of Chicago.

Medical career[edit]
Atlas is a board-certified radiologist and was a professor and chief of neuroradiology at the Stanford University Medical Center from 1998 to 2012. He has authored numerous articles and books on health care policy and medical imaging.
Political career[edit]
In August 2020, Atlas was appointed to the White House Coronavirus Task Force by President Donald Trump. His views on herd immunity and opposition to lockdowns and mask mandates were controversial and often contradicted the advice of other public health experts, including those from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO).
Controversies[edit]
Atlas's tenure on the White House Coronavirus Task Force was marked by significant controversy. He frequently clashed with other members of the task force, including Anthony Fauci and Deborah Birx. His public statements and policy recommendations were criticized by many in the medical and scientific communities.
Personal life[edit]
Atlas is married and has two children. He resides in California.
