COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria
The COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria is part of the worldwide pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The virus was confirmed to have reached Nigeria on 27 February 2020, when an Italian citizen in Lagos tested positive for the virus.

Etymology
COVID-19: The name "COVID-19" is derived from "CO" for corona, "VI" for virus, "D" for disease, and "19" for the year the disease was first identified, 2019. Pandemic: From the Greek "pan-", meaning "all", and "-demos", meaning "people". Nigeria: The name Nigeria was taken from the Niger River running through the country. This name was coined by Flora Shaw, the future wife of Baron Lugard, a British colonial administrator, in the late 19th century.
