History

Pixar Canada was officially opened on April 20, 2010. The studio was created to produce short films featuring characters from Pixar's feature films, such as Toy Story, Cars, and Monsters, Inc.. The establishment of Pixar Canada was part of Pixar's strategy to expand its production capabilities and to create additional content for various platforms, including television and home video.

Operations

The studio was located in the Gastown area of Vancouver. It employed around 100 people, including animators, technical directors, and other production staff. Pixar Canada produced several short films, including "Air Mater," "Small Fry," and "Partysaurus Rex." These shorts were typically included as bonus content on the home video releases of Pixar's feature films or aired on television.

Closure

On October 8, 2013, Pixar announced the closure of Pixar Canada. The decision was made to consolidate production efforts at Pixar's main studio in Emeryville, California. The closure resulted in the loss of approximately 100 jobs. Despite its short lifespan, Pixar Canada contributed to the expansion of Pixar's universe through its high-quality short films.
