Pickens County, South Carolina is a county located in the northwestern part of the U.S. state of South Carolina. As of the 2020 census, the population was 131,404. The county seat and largest city is Pickens. The county was created in 1826 and named after Andrew Pickens, an American Revolutionary War hero and U.S. Congressman.

Pickens County was formed in 1826 from part of the Cherokee lands. It was named after Andrew Pickens, a prominent figure in the American Revolutionary War. The county has a rich history, including its role in the American Civil War and its development during the industrial era.
Geography[edit]
According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 512 square miles (1,330 km²), of which 496 square miles (1,280 km²) is land and 16 square miles (41 km²) (3.1%) is water. The county is part of the Greenville-Anderson-Mauldin, SC Metropolitan Statistical Area.

As of the 2020 census, there were 131,404 people, 50,000 households, and 32,000 families residing in the county. The population density was 265 people per square mile (102/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 85.6% White, 8.6% Black or African American, 1.2% Asian, and 4.6% from other races.
