Lee County is a county located in the U.S. state of South Carolina. As of the 2020 census, the population was 16,531. The county seat is Bishopville. The county was created in 1902 and named after Robert E. Lee, the Confederate general.
Geography[edit]
According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 411 square miles (1,064 km²), of which 410 square miles (1,062 km²) is land and 1.1 square miles (2.8 km²) (0.3%) is water.

Demographics[edit]
As of the 2020 United States Census, there were 16,531 people, 6,123 households, and 4,123 families residing in the county. The population density was 40 people per square mile (15/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 62.3% African American, 34.5% White, 0.3% Native American, 0.4% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, and 2.4% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.2% of the population.
Economy[edit]
The economy of Lee County is primarily based on agriculture, manufacturing, and services. Major agricultural products include cotton, soybeans, and tobacco. The county also has a number of manufacturing facilities producing textiles, automotive parts, and other goods.
Education[edit]
Lee County is served by the Lee County School District, which includes several elementary, middle, and high schools. The county is also home to the Lee County Adult Education Center.
Transportation[edit]
Major highways in Lee County include Interstate 20, U.S. Route 15, and U.S. Route 401. The county is also served by the Bishopville-Lynchburg Airport.
