Darlington County is a county located in the northeastern part of the U.S. state of South Carolina. As of the 2020 census, its population was 62,905. The county seat is Darlington. The largest city in the county is Hartsville.
History
Darlington County was formed in 1785 as part of the Cheraws District. It was named after Darlington, England. The county has a rich history, including its role in the American Civil War and its development during the Reconstruction era.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 567 square miles (1,470 km²), of which 561 square miles (1,450 km²) is land and 6.1 square miles (16 km²) (1.1%) is water.
