Williamsburg County is a county located in the U.S. state of South Carolina. As of the 2020 census, the population was 31,026. The county seat is Kingstree. The county was created in 1804.
History[edit]
Williamsburg County was established in 1804 from parts of Liberty County. It was named after King William III of England. The area was originally settled by Scots-Irish and Huguenots in the early 18th century.
Geography[edit]
According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 937 square miles (2,430 km²), of which 934 square miles (2,420 km²) is land and 3.1 square miles (8.0 km²) (0.3%) is water.

Demographics[edit]
As of the 2020 census, there were 31,026 people, 12,000 households, and 8,000 families residing in the county. The population density was 33 people per square mile (13/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 65% African American, 33% White, and 2% from other races.

The economy of Williamsburg County is primarily based on agriculture, manufacturing, and services. Major crops include tobacco, soybeans, and cotton. The county also has a growing manufacturing sector, with several companies operating in the area.

Williamsburg County is served by the Williamsburg County School District. The district operates several elementary, middle, and high schools. There are also private and charter schools in the area.
