Pickens is a city in Pickens County, South Carolina. It is part of the Greenville-Mauldin-Easley Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city was named after Andrew Pickens, an American Revolutionary War hero and U.S. Congressman.
History
Pickens was established in 1868 when the county was divided into Pickens and Oconee counties. The city was named after General Andrew Pickens, a prominent figure in the American Revolutionary War. The Pickens County Courthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Geography
Pickens is located in the northwestern part of South Carolina, at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The city covers an area of approximately 2.5 square miles, all of which is land.
