Marion is a city in and the county seat of Marion County, South Carolina, United States. The city is named after Francis Marion, a military officer who served in the American Revolutionary War. Marion is part of the Florence, South Carolina metropolitan area.

Marion was established in 1795 and named in honor of General Francis Marion, a hero of the American Revolutionary War known as the "Swamp Fox" for his elusive tactics.
