A neuroscientist (pronunciation: /ˌnʊərəʊˈsaɪəntɪst/) is a scientist who specializes in the study of the nervous system. The field of neuroscience is a multidisciplinary science that encompasses a variety of scientific disciplines.

Etymology

The term "neuroscientist" is derived from the Greek words "neuron" meaning "nerve" and "scientist" which is derived from the Latin word "scientia" meaning "knowledge".

Role and Responsibilities
