Crop production (pronunciation: /krɒp prəˈdʌkʃən/) is the process of growing crops for domestic and commercial purposes. It involves a series of steps that include the preparation of soil, selection and sowing of seeds, watering, application of fertilizers, pest and weed control, and finally, harvesting.
Etymology
The term "crop" originates from the Old English word "cropp" which means "head or top of a plant". The term "production" comes from the Latin word "producere" which means "to bring forth".
