Forest County, Pennsylvania
Forest County is a county located in the northwestern part of the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. As of the 2020 census, the population was 6,973, making it the third-least populous county in Pennsylvania. The county seat is Tionesta. The county was created in 1848 and later organized in 1857.
History
Forest County was formed from parts of Jefferson and Venango counties. It was named for the extensive forests within its boundaries. The county has a rich history of lumber and oil industries, which played a significant role in its development.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 430 square miles (1,100 km²), of which 427 square miles (1,100 km²) is land and 3.0 square miles (7.8 km²) (0.7%) is water. The county is largely covered by the Allegheny National Forest, which provides numerous recreational opportunities.

Demographics
As of the 2020 census, there were 6,973 people, 2,972 households, and 1,789 families residing in the county. The population density was 16 people per square mile (6/km²). The racial makeup of the county was predominantly White, with small percentages of other races.
Government and Politics
Forest County is governed by a board of three county commissioners. The county is part of Pennsylvania's 15th congressional district. Politically, the county has historically leaned towards the Republican Party in national elections.
Economy
The economy of Forest County has traditionally been based on the lumber and oil industries. In recent years, tourism has become increasingly important, with visitors attracted to the Allegheny National Forest and other natural attractions.
Education
Forest County is served by the Forest Area School District, which provides public education from kindergarten through 12th grade. The county also has access to higher education institutions in nearby counties.
