Bedford County, Pennsylvania






Bedford County is a county located in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. As of the 2020 census, the population was 47,577. The county seat is Bedford. The county was created on March 9, 1771, from part of Cumberland County and named for the Duke of Bedford.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,017 square miles (2,630 km²), of which 1,012 square miles (2,620 km²) is land and 5.0 square miles (13 km²) (0.5%) is water.

As of the 2020 census, there were 47,577 people, 19,221 households, and 13,319 families residing in the county. The population density was 47 people per square mile (18/km²). There were 22,239 housing units at an average density of 22 per square mile (8.5/km²).
