Juniata County is a county located in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. As of the 2020 census, the population was 23,191. The county seat is Mifflintown. The county was created on March 2, 1831, from part of Mifflin County and named for the Juniata River.

Geography[edit]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 394 square miles (1,020 km²), of which 391 square miles (1,010 km²) is land and 3.2 square miles (8.3 km²) (0.8%) is water. The county is part of the Appalachian Mountain region.

As of the 2020 census, there were 23,191 people, 8,839 households, and 6,345 families residing in the county. The population density was 59 people per square mile (23/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 97.2% White, 0.8% Black or African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.3% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, and 1.4% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.5% of the population.

Juniata County is governed by a board of three county commissioners. The county is part of Pennsylvania's 12th congressional district.
