Salad in a jar

From WikiMD's medical encyclopedia

Salad in a jar is a low carbohydrate / keto friendly food item.

Overview

The Salad in a Jar concept has gained popularity as a convenient, portable, and visually appealing way to consume salads. The idea is to layer the ingredients in a jar, with the dressing usually at the bottom. This ensures that the salad remains fresh without becoming soggy, and the salad can be easily mixed by shaking the jar before consumption.

Basic Layering Principle

  • Dressing: First layer, at the bottom.
  • Hearty vegetables: Such as bell peppers, cucumbers, or carrots.
  • Protein: Grilled chicken, tofu, beans, tuna, etc.
  • Leafy greens: Spinach, lettuce, kale, etc.
  • Toppings: Seeds, nuts, dried fruits, cheese, etc.

Keto Salad in a Jar Recipe

Ingredients

  • 3 tbsp Keto Ranch Dressing
  • ½ cup bell peppers, sliced
  • ½ cup cucumbers, sliced
  • 5-6 cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 100g grilled chicken, cubed
  • A handful of spinach or arugula
  • 1 tbsp pumpkin seeds
  • 1 tbsp crumbled feta cheese

Preparation

  1. Start with the dressing at the bottom of the jar.
  2. Layer the bell peppers, cucumbers, and tomatoes over the dressing.
  3. Add the grilled chicken cubes.
  4. Place the leafy greens next, pressing them down lightly.
  5. Top with pumpkin seeds and feta cheese.
  6. Seal the jar tightly. When ready to eat, shake the jar to mix the dressing with the salad ingredients.

Variations

  • Vegetarian: Replace chicken with tofu or tempeh.
  • Seafood: Use shrimp or tuna as the protein.
  • Vegan: Skip the cheese and use a vegan protein source.
