Medications come in many dosage forms, including tablets, capsules, liquids, creams, and patches. They can also be administered in different ways, e. g. by mouth, by infusion into a vein, or by drops placed in the ear or eye. The active form is used in the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, or alleviation of symptoms of a disease or abnormal condition. A drug that has no active ingredient and is used in research studies is called a placebo. Also called medicines
