Glimepiride (pronounced as gli-mep-i-ride) is an oral diabetes medicine that helps control blood sugar levels. This medication helps your body respond better to insulin produced by your pancreas.
Etymology
The term "Glimepiride" is derived from its chemical name, which is 1-[[p-[2-(3-ethyl-4-methyl-2-oxo-3-pyrroline-1-carboxamido)ethyl]phenyl]sulfonyl]-3-(trans-4-methylcyclohexyl)urea.
Usage
Glimepiride is used together with diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is not for treating type 1 diabetes.
Side Effects
Common side effects of Glimepiride include hypoglycemia, dizziness, asthenia, headache, and nausea.
