Blood Sugar Level

Blood sugar level (pronunciation: /blʌd ˈʃʊɡər ˈlɛvəl/), also known as blood glucose level, is the concentration of glucose present in the blood of humans and other animals. Glucose is a simple sugar and approximately 4 grams of glucose are present in the blood of a 70-kilogram (150 lb) human at all times. The body tightly regulates blood glucose levels as a part of metabolic homeostasis.

Etymology

The term "blood sugar" is derived from the English words "blood" and "sugar". "Blood" comes from the Old English blōd, and "sugar" comes from the Old French sucre. The term "glucose" comes from the Greek word glukus which means sweet.
