Craniopharyngioma - (pronounced) (KRAY-nee-oh-fuh-RIN-jee-oh-moo) A rare, benign (noncancerous) brain tumor that usually forms near the pituitary gland and hypothalamus. Craniopharyngiomas grow slowly and do not spread to other parts of the brain or to other parts of the body. However, they can grow and press on nearby parts of the brain, including the pituitary gland, hypothalamus, optic nerve cross, optic nerves, and the fluid-filled spaces in the brain. This can cause problems with growth, vision, and the production of certain hormones. Craniopharyngiomas mostly occur in children and young adults
