The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) is a public research university located in San Francisco, California. It is part of the University of California system and it is dedicated entirely to health science.

Etymology

The name "University of California, San Francisco" is derived from its location and its affiliation with the University of California system. The university was originally established as Toland Medical College in 1864, and became affiliated with the University of California in 1873.
