ING4 or Inhibitor of Growth Family Member 4 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the ING4 gene. It is a member of the Inhibitor of Growth (ING) family, which is a type of tumor suppressor gene.

Function

The ING4 protein has a PHD finger, which is a common motif in proteins involved in chromatin remodeling. This protein can bind TP53 and may potentially modulate p53-dependent transcription and apoptosis. ING4 has been shown to suppress cell growth and to be involved in the regulation of angiogenesis.

Clinical Significance

Alterations in the ING4 gene have been associated with a variety of cancers, including breast cancer, glioma, head and neck cancer, and hepatocellular carcinoma. Studies have suggested that ING4 could serve as a potential biomarker for these cancers.

Research

Research into the ING4 gene and its associated protein is ongoing, with studies focusing on its role in tumor suppression and potential as a therapeutic target in cancer treatment.
