HER2/neu - (pronounced) A protein involved in normal cell growth. HER2/neu can be produced in higher than normal amounts by some types of cancer cells, including breast, ovarian, bladder, pancreatic, stomach and gullet cancer. This can cause cancer cells to grow faster and spread to other parts of the body. Checking HER2/neu levels in some types of cancer cells can help in planning treatment. Also referred to as c-erbB-2, HER2, human EGF receptor 2 and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2
