Peter Salovey

Peter Salovey (born February 21, 1958) is an American social psychologist and current President of Yale University. He is one of the early pioneers in emotional intelligence research and has made significant contributions to the field of psychology.
Early Life and Education[edit]
Peter Salovey was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He attended Stanford University, where he received an A.B. in psychology and sociology in 1980. He then went on to earn an M.A., M.Phil., and Ph.D. in psychology from Yale University.
Academic Career[edit]
Salovey began his academic career at Yale University, where he has held various positions, including the Dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, Dean of Yale College, and Provost of Yale University. In 2013, he was appointed the 23rd President of Yale University.
Contributions to Emotional Intelligence[edit]
Peter Salovey, along with his colleague John D. Mayer, developed the concept of emotional intelligence in the early 1990s. Their research has been influential in understanding how individuals perceive, understand, and manage emotions. Salovey's work in this area has led to the development of various models and measures of emotional intelligence, including the Mayer-Salovey-Caruso Emotional Intelligence Test (MSCEIT).
Research and Publications[edit]
Salovey has authored or edited over a dozen books and has published hundreds of articles and essays in the fields of social psychology, health psychology, and emotional intelligence. His research has been widely cited and has had a significant impact on both academic and applied psychology.
Awards and Honors[edit]
Throughout his career, Peter Salovey has received numerous awards and honors, including election to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the National Academy of Medicine. He has also been recognized with several teaching awards from Yale University.

Peter Salovey is married to Marta Elisa Moret, a public health professional. They reside in New Haven, Connecticut.
