Jonathan Edwards College

Jonathan Edwards College (commonly referred to as JE) is one of the fourteen residential colleges at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. Named after the theologian and Yale alumnus Jonathan Edwards, the college was established in 1933 as part of Yale's residential college system.
History[edit]
Jonathan Edwards College was one of the original residential colleges created during the reorganization of Yale College in the early 1930s. The college was named in honor of Jonathan Edwards, a prominent 18th-century theologian and philosopher who graduated from Yale in 1720. The college's first master was Robert Dudley French, who served from 1933 to 1953.
Architecture[edit]
The college's architecture is a blend of Collegiate Gothic and Georgian styles, designed by James Gamble Rogers, who was also responsible for the design of several other buildings at Yale. The college features a distinctive tower, a large courtyard, and a variety of student facilities, including a dining hall, library, and common room.
Traditions[edit]
Jonathan Edwards College is known for its strong sense of community and unique traditions. One of the most notable traditions is the annual "JE Screw," a matchmaking event where students set up their friends on blind dates. The college also hosts regular social events, intramural sports, and cultural activities.
Notable Alumni[edit]
Jonathan Edwards College has produced many notable alumni, including:
- Paul Krugman, Nobel Prize-winning economist
- Fareed Zakaria, journalist and author
- David Brooks, political and cultural commentator
Facilities[edit]
The college offers a range of facilities for its students, including:
- A dining hall that serves meals to students and faculty
- A library with a collection of books and study spaces
- A common room for social gatherings and events
- Residential suites and dormitories
Administration[edit]
The college is led by a Head of College and a Dean, who are responsible for the academic and social well-being of the students. The Head of College is a senior faculty member, while the Dean is typically a member of the Yale College Dean's Office.
