Limonia acidissima is also known as wood apple. It is an edible fruit used rarely in food preparations. It is also known as velakkaya in Telugu language where it is used as a food item both as fruit and also in making various pickles or chutneys.

Medicinal use

Not only the fruit, but also different parts of the L. acidissima plant are used as a folk medicine in India to treat various ailments. It reportedly possesses anti-hyperglycemic and anti-hyperlipidaemic activities.
