Healthcare in India (pronunciation: /ˈhɛlθkeər ɪn ˈɪndiə/) refers to the entire system of medical services and healthcare providers that are available in the country of India. The term is derived from the words "health" and "care", indicating the provision of services to maintain and improve people's health.

Etymology

The term "healthcare" is a compound of the words "health" and "care". "Health" comes from the Old English "hælþ", meaning "wholeness, a being whole, sound or well". "Care" comes from the Old English "caru" or "cearu", meaning "sorrow, anxiety, grief", which is a sense of serious attention or responsibility.
