The National Institute of Epidemiology (NIE) is a premier research institute in India, dedicated to the study of epidemiology and public health. It is part of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), which is the apex body in India for the formulation, coordination, and promotion of biomedical research.

The National Institute of Epidemiology was established in 1999 by the Indian Council of Medical Research. The institute was created to address the need for a dedicated center for epidemiological research and training in India. It was inaugurated by the then Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss, on October 30, 2006.
