Electronic stethoscope
Electronic Stethoscope
An Electronic Stethoscope is a modernized version of the traditional Acoustic Stethoscope. It is a medical device used by healthcare professionals to listen to the internal sounds of a patient's body, often used in the detection and monitoring of heart and lung conditions.
Pronunciation
Electronic Stethoscope: /ɪˌlɛkˈtrɒnɪk stɛθˈəskoʊp/
Etymology
The term "Electronic Stethoscope" is derived from two words. "Electronic", which refers to devices using or related to electricity, and "Stethoscope", which comes from the Greek words "stethos" (chest) and "skopein" (to look at).
Function
The Electronic Stethoscope amplifies body sounds to a level that is comfortable for the listener. It converts acoustic sound waves into electrical signals which can then be amplified for optimal listening. Unlike the Acoustic Stethoscope, the Electronic Stethoscope can be used to listen to faint body sounds and can also filter out background noise.
