Animal Charity Evaluators
Animal Charity Evaluators
Animal Charity Evaluators (ACE) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to finding and promoting the most effective ways to help animals. Founded in 2012, ACE conducts research to identify high-impact animal charities and interventions, with the goal of reducing animal suffering and improving animal welfare globally.
History
Animal Charity Evaluators was originally founded as Effective Animal Activism in 2012 by Jon Bockman and Samantha Noll. The organization was rebranded as Animal Charity Evaluators in 2013 to better reflect its mission and focus.
Mission and Goals
The mission of Animal Charity Evaluators is to find and promote the most effective ways to help animals. ACE aims to achieve this by:
- Conducting rigorous research to evaluate the effectiveness of animal charities and interventions.
- Providing recommendations to donors on where their contributions can have the greatest impact.
- Promoting a culture of effectiveness and transparency within the animal advocacy movement.
Research and Evaluation
ACE uses a comprehensive evaluation process to assess animal charities. This process includes:
- Intervention Research: Analyzing different strategies and interventions to determine their effectiveness in reducing animal suffering.
- Charity Evaluations: Assessing individual charities based on criteria such as cost-effectiveness, transparency, and track record.
- Impact Assessment: Estimating the potential impact of charities and interventions on animal welfare.
Top Charities
Each year, ACE publishes a list of "Top Charities" that it believes are the most effective at reducing animal suffering. These charities are selected based on their performance in ACE's evaluation process.
Criticism and Challenges
While ACE is praised for its rigorous approach to charity evaluation, it has faced criticism regarding:
- Methodology: Some critics argue that ACE's evaluation methods may not fully capture the complexities of animal advocacy.
- Focus: There is debate over ACE's focus on certain types of interventions, such as farmed animal welfare, over others.
